Runaway Regs - The List

train-wheelsx200 Here are some of the Runaway Regulations that Lu will address in the statehouse:

Renewable Energy Standard Adjustment on electric bills

Reg Name: Colorado’s Renewable Electricity Standard Requirement

Problem: $20 per ton “carbon adder” charge by XCEL has increased cost of electricity not only to XCEL customers, but also IREA and others that buy electricity from XCEL

Impact: My electric bills are higher

Charge for Automated Business Registration

Problem: It cost me $10 to change my business address on the Secretary of State website. Why should this cost money? No human beings are involved in the process, so we're not paying wages to cover the work.

Colorado Adoption Rules

Problem: Colorado has an adoption regulation that does not allow a family to adopt more than one unrelated child. After a couple adopts a chiild not related to them and shows they are good, loving and financially responsible parents, they are not allowed to adopt another child even if they have the means to do so.

Impact: There are children around Colorado who could have been adopted already if it was not for this state regulation.

Proof of Insurance

Regulation requiring drivers to carry and produce proof-of-insurance DOCUMENT. Has no constructive effect because LEOs already have access to an insurance database. The insurance card proves NOthing!. At most, is says you MIGHT have had insurance at one time. Your insurance could have been cancelled the day after you got the card. Or it could be counterfeit So... this is used when a cop wants to harass a citizen. S/he can charge them with a violation even when there has been no real violation. Untangling this technical violation is a headache for the victim. Its only use is as a hammer that a cop can use at his discretion to beat up citizens. Forcing citizens to carry "papers" to prove their innocence, is a fundamental outrage to “due process”. What’s next, do I have to carry “papers” to prove I am not Jewish?
